Resumo: A questão do meio ambiente no Brasil é um tema que merece grande atenção por estar atrelado às questões de saúde e desenvolvimento econômico, especialmente nos pequenos municípios brasileiros. Para isso, a legislação, com destaque para a Constituição Federal de 1988, busca regulamentar e nortear as atividades que devem ser realizadas em âmbito nacional, estadual e municipal em todo território, a fim de preservar, prevenir e restaurar recursos ambientais através de políticas e outras normativas.Com isso, o estudo se propôs a demonstrar como funcionam as atividades de uma secretaria do meio ambiente de um pequeno município do oeste de Minas Gerais, visto alguns instrumentos da Política Nacional do Meio Ambiente e o Art. 174 da Lei Orgânica deste município, referentes à questão ambiental.Por meio deste, foi possível entender como são realizadas essas atividades, se as mesmas buscam atender as referidas legislaturas, a fim de contribuir para que se construa um cenário de suas atuações, visando melhorar o funcionamento de suas atividades através da percepção de suas dificuldades, buscando melhorar nesses pontos.

Abstract: The issue of the environment in Brazil is a subject that deserves great attention because it is linked to health and economic development issues, especially in the small Brazilian municipalities. To this end, the legislation, with emphasis on the Federal Constitution of 1988, seeks to regulate and guide the activities that must be carried out at the national, state and municipal levels throughout the territory, in order to preserve, prevent and restore environmental resources through policies and other regulations. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate how the activities of an environmental secretariat work in a small municipality in the western part of the state of Minas Gerais, with some instruments of the National Environmental Policy and Art. 174 of the Organic Law of this municipality, the environmental issue. Through this, it was possible to understand how these activities are performed, if they seek to attend to the said legislatures, in order to contribute to the construction of a scenario of their actions, aiming to improve the operation of their activities through the perception of their difficulties, seeking improve on these points.
