Resumo: A Igreja Católica sempre foi uma instituição presente na história estrutural e política do Brasil. Nos anos 1960, particularmente, após sofrer modificações em sua base e diante de um Regime Ditatorial que assolava o país, ela assumiu uma participação política e social muito importante. Dessa forma, este trabalho propõe analisar qual a influência dos setores progressistas da Igreja Católica nas questões políticas e nos Movimentos Sociais durante o período do Regime Militar. As respostas se dão através do objetivo geral e dos objetivos específicos, sendo eles compreender a influência dos setores progressistas da Igreja Católica na política e nos movimentos sociais durante o Regime Militar, analisar a importância da Teologia da Libertação no contexto estudado e descrever a atuação das Pastorais e Comunidades Eclesiais de Base junto aos movimentos sociais, por meio da pesquisa qualitativa-descritiva e análise baseada na metodologia de história oral e do método bola de neve. Os resultados apontaram que a Igreja Católica esteve presente na vida de muitos militantes desde a sua infância ou adolescência, tendo exercido influência na criação de uma consciência social prematura que se estendeu a outros ambientes e a ações mais concretas como a participação ativa nas Pastorais, CEBs e movimentos sociais. A Teologia da Libertação, as Pastorais e as Comunidades Eclesiais de Base, por sua vez, tiveram papel essencial na atuação próxima ao povo propondo discussões baseadas no evangelho, assumindo causas sociais importantes, materializando a ação e influência da Igreja Católica progressista, atuando sempre junto aos Movimentos Sociais, Sindicatos e outros segmentos e os influenciando diretamente na luta e conquista de direitos antes inexistentes e pelo fim do Regime Militar.
Abstract: The Catholic Church has always been an institution present in the structural and political history of Brazil. In the 1960s, particularly, after undergoing changes in its base and facing a Dictatorial Regime that plagued the country, it assumed a very important political and social participation. Thus, this work proposes to analyze the influence of the progressive sectors of the Catholic Church on political issues and on Social Movements during the period of the Military Regime. The answers are given through the general objective and the specific objectives, which are to understand the influence of the progressive sectors of the Catholic Church in politics and social movements during the Military Regime, to analyze the importance of Liberation Theology in the studied context and to describe the performance of Pastorals and Ecclesial Base Communities with social movements, through qualitative-descriptive research and analysis based on the methodology of oral history and the snowball method. The results showed that the Catholic Church has been present in the lives of many militants since their childhood or adolescence, having influenced the creation of a premature social conscience that extended to other environments and to more concrete actions such as active participation in Pastorals, CEBs and social movements. Liberation Theology, Pastorals and Basic Ecclesial Communities, in turn, played an essential role in acting close to the people proposing discussions based on the gospel, taking on important social causes, materializing the action and influence of the progressive Catholic Church, always acting together with Social Movements, Unions and other segments and directly influencing them in the struggle and conquest of rights that did not exist before and at the end of the Military Regime.
